Welcome to SPIN class, yall! No, not the spin class with stationary bikes and an instructor who screams at you to pedal faster. Although for a hot second in college I wanted to be a personal trainer, then I interned for a personal trainer and it was a big no from me, but that’s a different story for a different day. This spin class is all about mindset, and spin is an acronym that stands for “See Positive In Negative”. “See Positive In Negative” is a mindset that gives you the ability to see the good in all situations, and if you adopt this mindset you’ll have the potential to live more joyfully and peacefully.
When adopting the SPIN mindset, you first need to recognize how important your thoughts are. They drive our actions, words, decisions, and mood, which means our thoughts are incredibly powerful. So whether we think positively or negatively DOES matter.
Next you need to recognize when you have a negative thought. Negative thoughts can come so easily, we often don’t even realize we are thinking them. We need to be on guard and intercept our negative thoughts when they arise.
When you catch yourself thinking negatively, SPIN is a great tool that can help you literally spin your negative thoughts into positive ones. The more you practice spinning your thoughts, the easier it will become to think positively, which can help you lead a calmer, happier, and lower-stress life.
One of the benefits of seeing positives in negative situations is that it allows you to focus on solutions, rather than dwelling on the problem. When you’re able to see the positive, you’re able to find ways to move forward and make the best of a difficult situation. This mindset shift can help you to be more resilient and less affected by negative events.
Another advantage of adopting the SPIN mindset is that it helps you to build a more positive outlook on life. When you’re able to see the good in every situation, you’re less likely to get bogged down by negativity, and more likely to focus on the things that bring you joy and happiness.
It’s important to note that seeing positives in negative situations doesn’t mean ignoring or denying the negative aspects of a situation. It’s about finding balance and perspective, and choosing to focus on the good while recognizing the bad.
So the next time you find yourself with a negative thought, I encourage you to SPIN. This mindset can help you find solutions, build resilience, focus on the good, and keep the bad in perspective. It’s a habit that I believe is worth developing and nurturing (something I myself am continually working on!), and you might be surprised at just how much it can change your life.
I love you & I’m praying that you find some genuine joy today!!

PS – I have to give a huge shoutout to my parents who have played a huge role in shaping my perspective and positive outlook on life. A couple of years ago my dad and I talked about the SPIN mindset, so thank you dad for helping me put language to this way of thinking!
