Hi girlie! Are you feeling like you’re on autopilot and can’t get out of the stay at home mom slump? Because same! But I can feel myself putting my hands back on the steering wheel and driving myself out of the pit.
You know what caused the shift? It’s really kind of silly from the outside, but internally it’s made all the difference. I printed out daily routine cards to use for my boys and I to map out our day. Now before you think I’m about to sell you on some routine cards let me tell you this; It’s not about the cards at all. It’s not even about the daily routine. It’s about finally doing something I’ve wanted to do for MONTHS but haven’t gotten around to it because other things have taken priority. You know how it is. There’s something you’d like to do. Maybe, like me, it’s something that will actually bring more peace or more function to your family, but you just can’t seem to justify making time for it.
But can I encourage you today? Will you do the thing?! I don’t know what the “thing” is that you’ve been putting off. Maybe it’s time to start going on the walks you promised yourself you would. Maybe you need to start the tradition of weekly family game or movie nights that you’ve always wanted to do. Maybe you want to start doing a family devotion or read your kids a Bible story before bed each night. Maybe you need to start going to church or join the Bible study group you’ve always been intrigued by. Maybe it’s time to try the recipe you saved on Pinterest ages ago, go to the book club, get the water colors out and paint, put the date night on the calendar, or organize the closet that’s been stressing you out for months.
I hope as you read this list your “thing” is coming to mind. This encouragement isn’t meant to add pressure to your life or add another “to do” item to your already packed schedule. This encouragement is meant for you to reflect on what you’ve put on the back burner because you’re busy keeping your kids fed, healthy, and entertained, cleaning your house, and keeping your household functioning. It’s meant for you to get yourself off autopilot and intentionally steer yourself toward something life giving and soul rejuvenating; Something that will bring fresh joy to your and your home and bring glory to God.
So go do the thing! Watch it help you shift from autopilot to taking control of the wheel. Trust that God will use it to bring life back to you, your family, and your home!
